Long Run in Leppävirta

Yesterday, I ran my longest run this far. It was 105 minutes exercise all together and I ran almost 10 kilometers. Running was fun and it felt much shorter than routes in the neighborhood I run regularly because there was so much to see on the route. And even if I felt tired on Thursday, the long run was again easier and I felt I could have run the route twice. Later I had to recall that did I really spend enough time on the route as it felt like 45 minutes basic run.

Now we are going to Vuokatti, Sotkamo. Hopefully I have time to do my interval exercise there in the middle of Angry Birds vacation we are going to have. In Vuokatti there is good circumstances for many kind of sports and the first Angry Birds park in the world. We're going there tomorrow but first we're spending overnight in hotel with spa.

Calm Before The Storm

In the beginning of the week I felt I could reach the sky and I looked after to have courage to take extra rounds when exercising. It was calm before the storm, I guess. It needed only one very badly slept night and one double training with surprisingly long aerobic session and I had to admit that I need humbleness to proceed slowly towards my targets:
Yesterday I tried again double training as we were travelling today, and I didn't have time to exercise at all today. As my training program of Nike+ Kinect Training has changed now, I just started my aerobic session after the 30 minutes running and realized that the session had lengthen to over 40 minutes. So I ended up to exercise about 1.5 hours with all the warm ups and cool downs. Then we got visitors straight after the training and shower and I had to lay down to children's playroom floor not to faint. I needed a nap afterwards to feel again ok and to get power to pack for our journey.

I was afraid to have flu again as our baby is again in a light flu but last night was again better and I'm ok again. As I rest today I'm ready to have my long run this weekend in Kuopio or Leppävirta, where is lot of high hills ang great landscape. I'm exited to have my 'high level camp' here.

Have a nice weekend!

Courage Wanted

I would like to have more courage to exercise more. I haven't really tried any extra rounds since the first week's terrible experience even if I have felt lately that I could do more. I have still overweight and I'm a bit afraid to have injuries if I become too enthusiast with my training sessions. And if I get injuries, I can't run and on the other hand if I don't exercise more I won't make progress anymore. Complicated, isn't it?

I guess I could safely increase the amount and intensity of exercising if I feel that I have recovered when I have to do the next session. And even if I ran with the very high heart rate they five kilometres route last week, my heart rate was in normal level when I did my succeeding 30 minutes running. And during the home training I also feel that I recover well from the preceding trainings.

Today I was just about taking the extra round of muscle drills but I was too busy with other things to do more. Next time I will try the extra round if I have any power left! Now I feel that when I exercise five times a week, I don't have time to increase the number of training sessions just now..

Midsummer Long Run

This Midsummer morning I started with the 75 minutes long run. It felt a bit stuffy but in the end I had exactly the same average pace and heart rate as last week. I think I have never ran in Midsummer day and this morning also almost all the other joggers were home. It was nice to experience such a peaceful rainy running exercise.

After the run I spent half an hour by stretching. I should really remember to do it more regularly. Today I ate the pasta salad we repaired earlier and we had a 'wellies on soccer match' with the daughters outdoors.

Midsummer Eve's Weigh-in

My midsummer celebration kicked off this morning by weigh-in. And now I'll go straight to the results: Again only -0.5kgs weight loss and the 10kgs milestone is still ahead, 0.5kgs still to achieve it. Have a nice Midsummer Eve!

Midsummer Preparations

I have repaired myself to the Midsummer weekend by thinking next long run route for the Saturday and by making some pasta salad to eat it after that. Before I can relax a little bit I should do my weigh-in again tomorrow morning. Maybe I should run in the midnight 'cause there is sun shining the whole night now here in northern Finland. Without this chronic lack of sleep, I surely would..

After Tuesday's 5kms run, I have recovered myself by relaxing but today I went for pram run before I picked up the girls from the daycare to spend summer holiday and then I finalised a four week's training program again by doing the fitness test. It gave me 57 and 34 as a result this time. And again I was able to do men's pushups. Cool. I'll continue the trainings with Nike+ Kinect Training as before.

Have a nice Midsummer all of you!

Five Kilometres Run

If someone is wondering why did it was snowing this morning in Oulu area even if it's June, it's because I was trying my running pace in 5 kilometres test route. In the beginning, I forgot to turn the target zone alarms on so I wasn't reminded of too high speed and I ended up running too quickly and get tired quit soon. The running would have been easier without that episode but I could keep my pace in the same level the rest of the route and my time was about 34:30. I tried to run the route in 35 minutes so I succeed! Now I'm positive that I can run the quarter marathon in 75 minutes in July. But today I was recalled that the pace distribution should be thought carefully before the events.

Above is photo of one of the two polar bears we saw yesterday in Ranua. Even if it feels that the weather is so Arctic that we could meet the polar bears on the running route too. I was tired to run today because of the yesterday's trip and because children kept us awake last night. This morning when I did my reparations for the run I recalled that when I ran my first half marathon, our oldest daughter kept us awake in Helsinki because of the first teeth that were just erupting.

Training Session Postponed

Tomorrow I'm skipping the training session for the first time for some other reason than a flu. We are going to Ranua with friends to spend a day in wildlifepark. Kids are waiting to see the polar bear there, so hopefully she is awake.

Tomorrow I should have done the fitness test (for the second time to update the training program) but I do it in Wednesday instead. Tuesday, I'll try my 5 kilometres running pace and my husband promised to join as a rabbit. This is the first time we are trying the joint running exercise for this project.

And lastly, let me introduce my soul mate who is decorating our garden this summer.

Have a nice coming summer week!

Breaking the Records Part 2

It is time for the second Breaking the Records posting. The first part is found here.

Burbee

At first, I couldn't do any proper burbees. It just felt that I didn't even have the right muscles to do it. So instead of jumping back to the push-up position I only stepped back. Nowadays I can do at least 5 burpees correctly in a row.

Men's push-ups

My record of the men's push-ups is six. I'm still very happy of this result, even if I couldn't do any in my latest fitness test. Couple of months ago I couldn't believe that I could even try to do men's push-ups. Maybe the Kinect sensor acted up last week when it supposedly couldn't count.

Running high-knees

The fitness test always ends to the high knee running where I have to run three 30 second drills with high knees. There is about 30 seconds break in between the drills. In my first fitness test in January, I couldn't run 30 seconds even in the first drill. Last time I ran even in the end of the third drill and I even improved the result compared to the second drill, because I ran as I wouldn't need to ever run again after the test. Number of the countable high knee steps in three drills were 93, 77 and 81.

One leg squats

Nowadays I can do 15 one leg squats that are counted. In the first fitness test I couldn't do any.

Plank

Instead of traditional plank, I do nowadays plank to pushup drill. In the latest muscle training I should have done 20 repetitions in a row, but I had to rest in the middle. My record is 10 repetitions in a row now.

Summer Breaks

Summer break of baby swimming started today, summer break of the kindergarten starts next week, almost all of the daughter's hobbies are on summer break, except football which ends after the midsummer. Now I really have to concentrate that this project doesn't end up to the summer break also.

At some point of the summer it is time to travel and it really challenges success of this project. This summer I really need to run and be active with my dinings also when we are travelling. Maybe when the life style becomes healthier I need to exercise and eat properly on my future summer vacations. So should I just get used to it and stop complaining?

Some Easy Hills and Basic Run Comparison

Today I ran my hill run and increased the time of the exercise to 40 minutes. I did five 90 seconds long spurts and with the warm up and cool down I was 55 minutes on the route of 5 kilometers. Nice that the landscape changes when the distance increases.

Last week and today was again easier and I felt proceeding in my running pace. I think I rest more so it affected immediately to the heart rate and speed. Here are few of my basic 30 minutes running exercises (about 45 minutes with walkings):

Date    Kms           Pace avg             Heart Rate
20/3     3.20km     14:17min/km     HR avg 139
17/4     3.24km     13:57min/km     HR avg 134
22/5     3.69km     12:30min/km     HR avg 130
05/6     3.96km     11:32min/km     HR avg 130

BTW. The new Adidas sneakers feels perfect. At least, I haven't realised during the exercises that shoes are different so I think there is nothing that bothers me with the new pair!

Long Run, Training Program and Hydration

Long Run And Training Program Continuation

Today I did my 90 minutes long run which was easiest one this far. I run a little bit over nine kilometres and I could keep the same pace from start to end. Cool! After the last exercise for four week's period, I updated the training program for the next period.

Hydration

I have started to think and try the hydration and energy drinks for the July's running event. Few weeks ago I started to run with the small water bottle and this week I have run with my water belt on and in addition, today I started to try the energy gel during the long run to get my body used to it before July. Due to hot weather we have had, I haven't been drinking enough and I should pay attention to water drinking also outside the exercises. And in addition five handfuls a day thinking continues, of course.

The Day of Weigh-in and Fitness Test

Today it was time to check my progress of my project again.

Weigh-in

Scale showed me the 78.0kgs, which is -0.5kgs in two weeks. I thought I would even had gained some weight due to the very hot weather and swelling I've got due to it. And my scale really hates the round number breaking again because it seems to be so hard again to achieve my 10 kilogrammes milestone.

Fitness Test

And I guess due to the hot weather, my fitness test felt really weird today. Even if I felt I have power to do it well, and I shouldn't have excuses to fail, I didn't get any men's push-ups, for example. Result is unambitious: Fitness Score of 49 and Athleticism Score of 37. And more detailed results follow once again:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Endurance 77 (earlier 68, 53, 52, 42, 01)
Flexibility 55 (earlier 36, 55, 55, 55, 27)
Strength 38 (earlier 51, 51, 34, 21, 09)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Balance 69 (earlier 59, 50, 45, 36, 58)
Power 63 (earlier 51, 54, 53, 24, 01)
Speed/Reaction/Agility 05 (earlier 10, 9, 10, 37, 12)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually the detailed results don't look that bad after all. Only the strength is significantly worse. But now that I have grieved the results this evening I really got angst to try my best in the next four weeks! Damn!

Have a nice and exerciseful weekend!

A Rest Day

Today I have spent my Wednesday as usual by resting and doing all the other things than exercising. I slept last night and this morning 14 hours all together. Bad nights with the baby have made me so tired that also my trainings have felt stuffy and heart rate has been higher than previous week. It was so nice to sleep the overtiredness away.

We have still repaired our garden for the summer, I cut the lawn and we barbecued, but I ate only barbequed chicken with the fresh salad.

Vegetables, Training and Strawberries

Vegetable garden is done today and little muscle training in between. Then strawberry garden is fixed for this summer and water is carried to the vegetable garden.. So great amount of beneficial exercising done today. I burned my back while working outdoors, ouch. I never remember how insidiously the first sunny days of the summer burns my light-colored skin. I'm so happy that I can do alone all the heavy work outdoors and without asking help all the time. And it's so nice to own a painless back.

Tomorrow I could try my new shoes for the first time when it's time for the second interval running exercise.

Sunday 1 June 2014

Nike, Adidas, Asics..

I got my birthday present a little bit beforehand as my birthday is not coming until July. I wanted to have new pair of sneakers from my husband and we decided to buy the pair already now, because I want to run them in properly before the quarter marathon of July, which is only a week after the birthday.

The evolution of my running shoes is Nike, Asics, and now Adidas. Firstly, I have tried Nikes, which had a perfect shoetree for me, and even if the pair is old and I guess they are not enough supportive for running anymore, the pair is not broken and is still in use in home training. Then I decided to try Asics. The pair has been a bit too narrow for me, and I guess it's done for the legs that doesn't carry overweight. I have felt that the pair is going to break soon, even if they haven't been in use as long as the Nikes was. And I've been afraid that it happens just before the next event so I needed to have new pair to use with the Asics. In the shop I tried Asics on and realised that the same seams press my legs that with the old ones, and I have think that the seams are just giving up, but I guess the seams have pressed my legs from the beginning because of the narrowness. My husband has also bad experience of Asics so now I decided to try Adidas, just to get experience also on it and because Adidas feels to have more wider shoetree. I'm looking forward to try them in real work..
