First Weigh-in

The third training week started this morning with the first weigh-in. The scale showed very motivating number even if I have eaten as before during these first two weeks of the project. The goal has been to get used in to regular training at first. Also the breastfeeding takes energy so every now and then I feel I'm eating like a horse. Time to concentrate on diet comes later.

Anyway, 1,5kgs weigh loss in two weeks is now the result. Even if the breastfeeding should burn calories the weight was stucked to the same number for over month already. So even if the diet is not yet under control, I guess my metabolism has increased with exercising and weight gets lower again.

Now I start the third week of the project again with two days resting before the next exercises. So maybe it's time for couple of days silence here in my blog also.

More Movements and Girls Evening Out

I read someone's post about Nike+ Kinect Training before I started this project and it criticised that the program becomes boring because it repeats the same drills every week. Thus I have expected to spend my time with the same movements during my four weeks program.

Yesterday's aerobic training anyway seemed different than week before. Last week it basically repeated the same movements I did in muscle training but with higher tempo. This time it mixed leg muscle movements in the same drill and added also more movements. Maybe because I have learned to do the easier ones well. This was nice surprise and suits for me. Today I should try is the second muscle training for this week changed somehow.

And not to make this project too serious I spend the evening out with my friends on Monday and tried new local coffee. I ate burger with fries that was made of organic and local products. Very good. Let's see what the scale likes that meal on Friday.

Second Week Exercises are Ongoing

Yesterday I did the first training session for the second week. the muscle training was in question and it went so much better than the first training week before. I had to do less repetitions, only 12 in most of the drills when last week had to do 15. More and more drills go now properly and I can do the drills to the end. I can follow the tempo of the personal trainer better and all ways training feels easier all the time. Nice.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the next training days. I know, it's not the best way to train in consecutive days, but the girls are in daycare those days so I have better time to concentrate on training well. And it takes less of our family time to exercise and I can for example teach girls to ski, as I did this morning.

Sportterfly's Backround

I'm Finnish mum with three kids, 5 and 2 years daughters and 3 months old son. I'm spending this year at home on maternity leave and going to concentrate mostly to my kids, family and exercising. On the other hand, supporting husband with his studies, all the activities small kids are figuring out, breastfeeding and all other business are keeping me so busy at the moment that it is very hard to find time for training.

Before the kids I exercised a lot. Had a lot of time to do different things. I participated fitness boxing sessions, had few years personal trainer to make me training program at gym, I becycled everywhere, about 3000km per year, I swam, participated swimming technique courses every now and then, and so on. I can't even remember all just now.

When me and my husband planned to have kids, it didn't happen very easily. At some point I started to feel that I need some other project to think. Then I get thrilled of jogging. I planned to run my first half-marathon half a year later. My very good friend also thought to try running and we decided to do it together. I only trained for one month or two and get pregnant. Same day I did the pregnancy test, my friend called from shop where she was just trying on new sneakers. I didn't want to tell about pregnancy yet so it was a bit hard to concentrate on the phone call. Later that spring I was cheering on my friend with my baby belly when she run in Helsinki her first half-marathon and in audience get even more thrilled to the jogging. I decided, that next year I'm there in Helsinki also running, not only watching.

Even if, I have lost all my sports related hobbies with the kids I had found something new! I didn't run ever before but after the first kid arrived, I have run three half marathons. I run the first half-marathon in Helsinki just 6 months after the first birth (year later than my friend, as planned in audience). The next one I run year later just before my second pregnancy an the third one about year later than the second baby was born. So during the past six years I have been 3 times pregnant and run three half marathons, not bad?

Practise by low heart rate jogging is good way to burn fat and get rid of the weight got during the pregnancies. As I mentioned in my first post, I have got 30kgs with every pregnancy, but have been in the old shape when participating to halfmaraton run, so 6months and 14months after the first and second delivery respectively. Jogging also helps to ease stress. It is hard to worry when all effort is needed to run slow enough. Halfmaraton training is mostly done very slowly so with this hectic stage of life you really need to slow down your tempo when running. And as well as training at home, running can be started straightly when you get out of the door and don't need to waste time in trips needed to get gym.

My third pregnancy was so hard that I don't think it's very reasonable to start half-marathon training right away. At first I need to get more power, muscles and lose weight. That's why I planned to start to go to gym before I found this Nike+ Kinect Training. Even if I have got 30kgs also before, I'm otherwise much worse shape than after the first pregnancy. Then I went swimming still couple of days before the delivery date. This third time with my hurting back and huge belly I couldn't do anything. And woman can get to very bad shape without doing anything for a half year. So, maybe later this spring, I start jogging, when I get better shape with Nike+ Kinect Training excersises at first.

The Nike+ Kinect Training made me Get Toned program for four weeks now. Burning fat is more my goal but I get aerobic exercise also with pram and activities with the kids. I thought that Get Toned mixes me nicely aerobic exercise with muscle movements. I'm planning to exercise four times a week and in between do all kind of other activities with and without the kids. My goal is to get into good condition step by step and return to old weight during the year 2014 and fit into old wedding dress 15. 1. 2014.

Skating, Red Cheeks and Hot Chocolate

Today it was time to spend time with kids and let daddy do some school work at home. It was first nice winter day after long freezing period so we spent hours outside and went walking with pram and kicksledge with us. Baby also loved the warmer weather and he slept almost five hours in pram while I spent time with the daughters in winter activities.

Early evening we went to the ice skating rink with the whole family. I spent the second time on ice skates after the high school sport lessons. First time was last year when the oldest kid was learning skating. Today it was younger daughter's turn to be on skates for the first time. She already learned to move on ice without falling down continuously. We brought home with us five happy minds, five red noses and ten red cheeks. After dinner the hot chocolate was well deserved dessert. And kids really didn't have to wait sleep in the evening.

Nice active day behind. The pain in the muscles get easier and I almost count hours to the next real training session.

Third and Fourth Sessions

Wow! My first week with Nike+ Kinect Training is now behind and I'm more and more thrilled of exercising every day! I feel I want to exercise more but now should keep my body away from the XBOX for couple of days and let my leg muscles rest. Next time I'll train on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the other businesses.

With the third and fourth exercise I felt that program starts to be routine for me partly. Same movements are repeated so it is faster to do drills because I don't have to watch the guidance for every movement.

Tomorrow, I'm Also half way to the next weigh-in, which I'm going to do every second week. I already feel lighter, I really can feel my muscles, and even if I haven't yet concentrated to change my diet I feel that I'm eager to eat healthier food than before exercising. I have also drunk much more water than before.

I don't believe in diets or training that do miracles in two weeks. Instead I prefer small steps to learn new life style. Thus, I'm not going to change the eating habits before the training really feels a routine I can't skip.

Meanwhile I'm resting my body, I'll try to finalise the blog post about myself which I've been working with the whole week.

The Second Training

Yesterday I had the first aerobic exercise with Nike+ Kinect Training. It was hard but the program made me to do the same movements twice and the second cycle felt easier. After the training I felt I could have done also the third round, but had to finish. Kids were waiting to have a meal. It was motivating that during the second round I could do more repetitions than during the first one and I was able to repeat couple of times the hard movements, which at first round I couldn't even try.

Leg muscles are still hurting, thanks to the hard beginning of the program with that accidental bonus round I did first time. Thus, I couldn't do squats and other movements for leg muscles well, but otherwise I already feel some progress in my body. Nice.

Today I exercise more the muscles. Hopefully not much leg muscle movements on.

My First Exercise

I was about to introduce myself better soon but didn't have enough time to make it today. That will come soon, I promise. Anyway, now I have half an hour my own time so I came to update how my first real training session was.

I was already sweating after the warming up but all the times I get depressed during the session I motivated myself by thinking that this must be easier after few weeks. The muscle training was topic of the day. Movements were hard and it was hard to do part of the movements correctly. So I had to do extra repetitions to get all of needed done. Mostly 15 repetitions were required to get one part done. I was very tired and got depressed but cooling down part was nearer all the time. I was celebrating the last sweating movements but then I did a terrible mistake..

Because of bad Finnish translation of the options in the game I selected wrong one and ended up to do some bonus training. The whole series of all the muscle training started again and I didn't know how to skip it. Well all that helped was to do some extra training but naturally had to skip and rest every now and then. At least I got very hurting legs. They were already hurting because of the fitness test I did in friday. When I was repeated all the movements and were front of the options again thinking how to get to Cool down I realized that other 'are you ready' option meant am I ready with the training and not to the bonus track. Bingo! Then there were only a few cooling down movements. I would have enjoyed more. But still with my stupid selection I ended the training about an hour of the start so I did about half an hour extra today. I'm a bit worried do I have strength to do the next sessions well because muscles hurt nicely today. And I don't believe it get easier soon. Well, let's see :-)

I feel anyway wonderful after the first training :-)

Starting of My First Blog Ever

I think I'm not the first one starting with the words 'I have always wanted to write my own blog..' Anyway, for about year now I have been thinking different topics I could write about. Now when I have less time than ever, three small kids keeping me busy, the inspiration to start with writing about losing weight came suddenly. Hopefully the energy to write doesn't disappear as fast.

During the latest pregnancy I got to very bad shape because I couldn't exercise for a while with terrible back problems. After the delivery I have been thinking good ways to lose weight and get back to the condition I was before the kids. Naturally I don't have lot of time so when I was almost on my way to the nearest gym to have personal trainer and own training program but suddenly had this idea instead. Because we already have XBOX 360 in our living room, why wouldn't I try some fitness game with that.

After doing a bit work with Google I get inspired with Nike+ Kinect Training. Why I got most interested in that was the possibility to do fitness test to follow up the progress of exercising. Also the 'personal training' sound good for me. I could decide how many days I want to exercise, which is my goal and the game designs me the program to achieve my goals.

A morning this week, I watched TV and they were talking about the first Wear your own wedding dress day in Finland. I realised I wouldn't be able to participate this weird event, even if I wanted. It is 22kgs since I've been to that dress last time. I have got over 30kgs with all my pregnancies, but with the first and second time I got rid of the kilos easily. This time it seems that I really need to work to get rid of the weight. Over ten kilos I lost without thinking of it but now the scale has shown the same numbers at least for a month now and while watching that morning show I really decided that next year I will fit to my wedding dress to try it on once again. (Don't be afraid, I wan'twear it publicly :-) ) As a nice coincidence, the mailman brought me the Nike+ Kinect Training at the same day.

Yesterday, I tried the game for the first time while the two oldest were at grandparent's and youngest one spending time in babysitter watching mum's weird movements. I couldn't remember how legs can start to hurt while exercising properly. I just couldn't finish all parts of the test and realised very well that I have lost my stomach and leg muscles completely. At the end I got fittness score of 20 (of 100) and athleticism score of 26 (of 100). The average score of ladies my age are 36 and 24, respectively. So at least the fittness score shocked me even if I know I'm not in good shape. Same time I felt that I have to start immediately to better the results. Less than two years ago I was in shape to run halfmaratons and now I couldn't finninsh running three 30 seconds spurts.

The game made me Get Toned program for four weeks now. I'm planning to exercise four times a week and in the middle do all kind of other activities with and without the kids. My goal is really get into good condition and old weight during the year 2014 and fit into old wedding dress 15th January 2015.

Even if I felt despered with my bad condition, I felt very energetic for the first time for long time. I couldn't remember it feels so good after the proper exercise. I couldn't stop using the game, and still can't wait to start my next training session, so I tried one 5 minutes training session before quiting. I was full of energy and new ideas the rest of the evening and started to plan creating of my own blog of this exercising process: My own getting into shape blog!

Summary:
Goal: 49 weeks I have left in 2014 I will lose half kilos per week. That makes my goal 24,5kgs weight lost at the end of this year and first milestone 2 kgs after four weeks training.

How to make it: With Nike+ Kinect Training at first and later in the spring also with my old hobby, jogging.

If I fit To my wedding dress 15. 1. 2015 I Should promise something nice to myself :-) I should start to think some motivation gifts to the end and as the milestones are successful.
