Double Training Days

I feel better already and tomorrow I'm going to do both muscle and running training. I'm doing muscle training every Tuesday and Friday now and I run every three days so this week the training sessions happen to be on the same day. Interesting to see how the muscle training before the running affects to the heart rate levels. It is effective to do all four sessions during two days and have five days when I don't need to exercise.

I have felt extremely tired today and during the weekend. I don't know is it because of summer time that changed the clocks or because of the medicine I took to allergy now. I have taken naps every day and before this weekend I have needed naps maybe hardly once a week. I have been suprised even myself how little I actually have needed sleep lately even if we have a little baby. And because I'm tired now I dream all the time some sweet or salty snacks, chocolate and candy mostly. Hard..

Flu or Allergy?

I feel again having flu. That's why I skipped yesterday's running and planned to do it today if I feel better. I hope I know the reason now for this continuous feeling of flu. There is already pollen in the air and yesterday I bought medicin for it. I don't usually get very strong symptoms because of the pollen but I have asthma and last year I had to increase medicine because I had one flu after another because of the exacerbation of asthma. Maybe I get now stronger symptoms of the pollen too. I don't know, but I hope that the antiallergies help now.

I felt flu a bit still this morning and I planned to pram walk instead of running. It was easy to keep heart rate low so I guess I don't have very bad flu coming after all. I think that after tomorrow's break I can continue training with full intensity again. But I am totally frustrated to think all the time that what is my training condition.

Sausages

Damn, I forgot to photograph the sausages! We were just in the park nearhood with the neighbours. We had a campfire there and we made sausages and drunk hot chocolate too. I just enjoyed the moment and the best spring weather so much that I didn't remember to take photos of the sausages that I had planned to publish here. I just wonder why all the blogs are full of photos taken of the healthy foods but no one publish any junk food they fall for. That's why I have planned to scatter in my blog also photos about the junk food and other temptations I face during the project.

Fifth Weigh-in

No! I didn't reach the 6kgs milestone yet so I should wait two more weeks to get new outdoor clothes for the spring. But I haven't had time to use my -4kgs gift either, which I decided to be leg care, so I need to make an appointment to have it soon.

Now my weight is 81.5kgs so I have lost 5.5kgs all together. This wasn't the easiest two weeks period I have had. There was that birthday party and I ate all kind of junk food on my way and otherwise I have also tried to eat more proper food not to lose weight too fast. Anyway I'm still half a kilos ahead of my schedule so I'm not very worried. Now I just need more time to think this project and the next two weeks I don't have anything else going on so I can think about myself more.

Tears in Eyes

Yesterday, I tried another time the pram running and it was so much easier than the first time. I don't have to think anymore that I have the pram with me and I can concentrate better and better on running. I ran a bit faster than with the first pram running and my heart rate was easier to keep down. My husband ran against me when I was just taking the first steps of running after warming up. He already started the cool down and proposed that he can take the baby with him home that I can run in peace but I decided to continue with the pram that I really get used running with it. And afterwards I didn't regret because it was so much easier this time.


While running I also thought what really what keeps me running. What forces me to go jogging again and again. Running slowly is a bit boring, I admit, but I love to dream about my running events while I exercise. On the other hand dreaming of running doesn't help to keep the pace slow and I always end up running too fast and wake up of dreaming when have to concentrate to slow down again. But today I realised that the reason for this crazy hobby is the best feeling you can ever get, the feeling when you are crossing the finish line of the main running event of the season and you have almost tears in the eyes because you are so moved that you did your best and all of the tens of exercises you have done matters. That's the moment I could run for thousands of times and that's the reason why I keep running time after time.

BTW. Today it was so warm to walk from the daycare with the winter coat on that I hope I have reached 6kgs milestone tomorrow to have new outerwear for the spring.

For My Own Joy

Why do I write in English? Hopefully some day I will read the first postings and be ashamed of bad English I wrote at first and I hope I can see a lot of development in my writing skills. I'm working in the IT sector. English is my working language but I don't need it very often during the long leaves. Earlier I have noticed that it is hard to return to office after maternity leaves when the language that you need daily is totally forgotten. Now when the idea of this blog came, I planned the postings to be short going straight to the point. Then I thought that the short postings I could do in English as well. So I'm sorry for all the clumsy postings. I'm not very good in sport vocabulary and of course it is hard to express how I feel in foreign language. But even if I wouldn't get any readers, I do it for my own joy and to keep up my language skills. At least after two months blogging I already notice that I have proceed. If I have seen something interesting in a blog or in an article I don't remember anymore did I read it in English or in Finnish. That's a progress I guess. I could recommend to everyone of you trying the same, writing in English. If you have ever think can you do it, I know you can!



Why do I write about exercising and losing weight? For my own joy! When I started, I didn't actually know that the web is so full of the blogs about losing weight. I didn't have read them much. Anyway, I have always been interested in watching all the TV programs about weight loss and it is interesting to see the huge changes that people can do in a short periods of time. Now it was nice to have the same kind of project of my own where I have realistic but hard goals. And during all my projects I have had some kind of training diary. So even if no one reads about my project this is my diary where I can return and think back hardness of the first training, difficulties to eat right things, and all other things I faced on my journey. And yes, I am reading nowadays a lot of my 'colleagues' blogs about their projects to get back to shape and they are very interesting to follow! Now in the evenings I prefer of reading blogs instead of watching TV. And hopefully my progress and milestones I reach on the way inspires someone who pops in here a visit to start own kind of project too.

Doing Nothing?

After eight week trainings with Nike+ Kinect Training I have felt progress all the time. Now that I'm also running it feels like I'm not exercising enough even if last week I made five trainings all together, twice with Nike+ Kinect Training and three times by running. That is one training more in a week than any of the preceding eight weeks. And today I did the first training with Xbox for the week and there is still three sessions coming.

The basic running trainings have to be done so slowly that at the end it feels you could do another similar exercise right away. Preceding weeks I made all the exercises with so high tempo that this running training program feels now like I'm slacking off. Even if I know that this is the best way to do the running exercises now, I feel impatient to wait that I can see the progress in pace or in heart rate level.

Compared to the previous half marathon shape I have this 15kgs extra load now with me. I know I would get my knees hurting now if I ran any faster. Hopefully my pace increases when I get more weight off and if the muscle training helps..

Cake Burning Run

I spent my weekend next to sweet things. Here is one example. My daughter's birthday celebration is over now and it is time to concentrate more on my life style changing again.

After eating the cakes it was time for the third running training today. The running itself goes as there wasn't one and a half year long break, slowly but firmly. Of course, at first, the muscles get a bit sore after the exercise. In warming up walkings I have noticed that I have to speed up a bit to get the heart rate in the same level as before. Hopefully this positive progress is because of the muscle training I have done this time. My hear rate is naturally quit high. My maximum heart rate is over 200 and it needs concentrating that I don't exercise with too high heart rate level. Earlier even the walking increased the heart rate too much if I walked too enthusiastically. At least that part feels easier already..

Overview of Ninth Week

There has been silence in my blog because of my busy week. I have repaired my daughter's birthday party. She turned three years this week and we are going to celebrate her tomorrow. Of course I have worked out as before but all the other free time I have baked and cleaned up the house. And in addition, today I had to empty the flea market table I had two weeks. All together, despite of the busy week, I have run twice and done two training sessions with Nike+ Kinect Training. And next running I'm going to do on Sunday.

Winter came back! It has been snowing 20 centimeters since last night. My husband removed the snow from our yard while I baked. But I can't wait to spend time outside before all the snow melts again. Hopefully it is time to run on the snow next.

I tried pram running yesterday. I run the same route as on Monday. It is the same simple route I do always at first if I haven't run for a while or I want to test how my typical slow trainings are going. I couldn't concentrate as well in slow running as without pram so I had a bit higher average heart rate. I think I have to do pram running couple of times before I get comfortable with it. But I have to learn it. We have three kids now and it is impossible to match the schedule of the family in a way that all the running trainings can be done in peace. Especially if also my husband becomes inspired of the running again. Then there is eight running trainings typically in one week in this family when some running event is approaching. That means that always when there is some free time either of us is on running route.

Breaking the Records

During every training session I break my record of some drill. I don't remember to brag about my progress here very often but here I collected a few of them that I could remember. All the photos are done by me.

Plank



At first I couldn't finish 20 seconds drill of plank but after eight weeks my record is 60 seconds.

One leg squats


At first I couldn't do any repetitions of one leg squats that counted (fitness test counts only the perfect ones). In last fitness test I did nine repetitions with both sides.

Men's push ups



In the first fitness test I couldn't do any men's push-ups, four weeks ago I could do one that counted and now again none, because I had done few repetitions of lady's version before in muscle training in the same day. In one of the 15 minutes quick start session I did three repetitions once.

First Run was Fun

As the title already says, the first run was fun. Running wasn't as hard as I thought it could be. It is nice to notice that running habits and feeling you get haven't lost during this very long break. I still can feel even without watching the monitor when I run too fast and with too high heart rate. Usually I end up running too fast and don't have patience to slow down if I dream about fast running enough.

By the way, I had to use my husband's heart rate monitor. My own had empty battery so that problem should be repaired asap. I think that was the only sign that I haven't run for a while. And of course in addition the hurting leg muscles I do have now.

Lastly, I still have to add one photo I took during yesterday's pram walk. The asphalt I saw. Today there was even more of it shown even if in the evening when I ran there was about -10 Celsius degrees. The sunny days do miracles. First running steps on asphalt in spring, there is nothing better than that..

Sunday Walk

Today I was supposed to rest and let my body recover from the past week's exercises. The weather of this winter has been so poor, plus degrees and lack of snow. Thus, when I saw the weather forecast for the next week showing minus degrees and the sunny weather and white ground after yesterday's snowing, I couldn't help myself, I decided to walk. I pram walked to my parents, spent couple of hours there and pram walked back. It took a 37 minutes to walk there but only 30 minutes to come back even if I stopped to take some pictures on the way. 


It wasn't very easy to walk fast. If I wasn't thinking it actively I ended up walking slower with my typical tempo. I haven't been sweating like that when walking for a while. And when I was almost home, I walked even faster. I was imaging myself running at the end of half marathon and someone from the audience yelling that I'm near to beat my record. I almost run.


On the way I saw a bit asphalt under the icy street and I had to try few running steps. I think the asphalt is one of the runners best signs of coming summer. I haven't run for almost one and a half year now, and tomorrow is the day when I do my first running training. I'm so exited.

Diet Posting

This is the final posting about my diet for a while. Or otherwise it becomes a bit boring if I publish only photos of a single note paper that I have on the fridge door. But on the other hand it has been to concentrate on the diet now so naturally I'm thinking and writing about it a lot. Anyway, now it is time to think the next steps and here comes the final note paper photo (at least for a while). This is the situation after Friday:



Nothing becomes a habit in four weeks but at least now I have started to think healthier choices first when I open the fridge door. The last couple of days I would have eaten even more than five handfuls but I have taken something 'heavier' to guarantee the energy I need for breastfeeding. Weird that I haven't even calculated calories of my eatings yet and the weight is nevertheless going down. But this is the method how I always have reached my weight back to normal after pregnancies, only by thinking a bit healthier and adding exercising. 

Next step is to keep up the Five Handfuls a Day thinking when hungry and concentrate on the coming running exercises.

Fitness Test Results

Today I did the final muscle training for this program. It was quit easy one. Obviously I have get more power because the common training sessions doesn't feel to killing me anymore. After that I could do the fitness test. And do you remember how I at first complained my muscles hurting many days after the test, and now I just did it! Afterwards I thought that maybe I should have pushed even more. Anyway, the result was very pleasurable for me, after all the sick days that I had along the way.

My fitness score improved from 40 to 44 and athleticism score from 28 to 33. Again I listed the result of different parts in the list below.

Fourth Weigh-in Already!

Two kilogrammes weight loss in two weeks, yee yee yee! This time the scale showed me 82kgs, which means that I have lost five kilogrammes in total! Last time I manage to get rid of only a half kilo in two weeks but now the result was better, even if I feel (again) that I have ate with the horse's appetite. I don't know if I should eat even more to control the weight loss. Because of the breast feeding I shouldn't lose more than half a kilo in a week. Well, this was the first time that I lost 'too much' so maybe I continue as this far and if the weigh is continuously going down too fast or baby becomes somehow unhappy then I 'll come up with something.

Now some morning routines and then I try to finalise this program with the test again while baby takes a nap. See you soon with more results!

This and That

Laziness?

I have felt that I'm lazy and don't exercise enough. Maybe I'm a bit afraid that I end up spending time as before, without exercising and eating whatever. But today I calculated that it was already ninth training session for this four weeks program even if I have been sick twice. And in addition I have walked with pram a lot and spent lot of time with the kids outdoors. Maybe I shouldn't blame myself for laziness so much?

Training session

Today I did the last aerobic session for a while and it was a hard one. Usually I have collected around 250 Nike Fuel but this time I managed to get 440! Wow! When I did the first aerobic sessions there was about 10 drills to do after the warm up, but this time I had to do 16. And in the beginning the drills lasted 30 seconds and now most of the drills are 45-60 seconds long. One negative thing to say was interruptions. Our baby has been crying a bit lately and he didn't sleep very well so I had to go again outside couple of times to calm him down that he continues the nap. So I couldn't concentrate as well as I wanted but when I saw the result, it wasn't that bad.

New Training Program

Tomorrow it's time for the last muscle training of the program and then I'll restart the program and do the fitness test. Next four weeks period includes also the running exercises, so I'm going to change my target to Get Strong for the next program and I'm going to train my muscles only twice a week then.

Eating

Today my lunch bar looked like this..

..After all, my diet has gone well after I have used the note paper to remind me. Maybe I try now live without marking the tallmarks but if I again start to eat as before I'll take this trick again in use. My next step is now to keep up the correct eating.

Week Eight News

Training

This morning I tried to work out and it was first time for a week. Flu is now going away but the training felt a bit stuffy still but not that bad as I thought it could feel. I'm so happy (again) that I'm not sick and I'm able to start carefully the hard training again. There is actually only two training sessions left before the Friday's fitness test but it feels good that I can still work out even a bit before that.

Gift

I think that a work out bra is good when you don't have to think of it when you are training. And I totally forgot that I have a new bra on today, so it means it works well also in real action. Nothing to complain!

Diet

With guests I didn't remember the correct eating, as I thought before, so the Saturday I had only two handfuls together. But I have now tried to fix the problem and Sunday and Monday were much better. And today I have eaten already an orange.



But I have to admit that couple handfuls of berries I have eaten with sugar on pancake and at least four handfuls of vegetables in burritos so no need to worry that situation is changing too healthy.



Girls are now back to daycare after the winter holiday. Hopefully I can now concentrate more on this project again. I wish that the flu is the last one before summer!

When This Flu Goes Away??

No no no, no yet.. I didn't work out today. I feel that I'm not ready for hard exercise yet. Today I have rest but yesterday we had a long walk with my family and our guests in nice early spring weather. Snow is only missing, otherwise it is the best weather when sun is already warming up daytime. Our house is next to the popular running route of the Sunday runners and it is nice to notice that so many runners have already waken up from the winter sleep. I look at them so jealously from our window. I want to run soon too! I want this flu go away!

It is already week eight ongoing and I have fitness test again coming on Friday in addition to fourth weigh-in. I'm not expecting much this time of it because of the stomach flu I had and this flu and sniffles I have now. Being sick is now limited the training program too much. Anyway, later this week I'm going to publish my training and running program for the next four weeks period. If someone is dreaming of running a ten kilometres in July/August or half marathon in September, and don't have much experience of running, my program can be followed.

2kgs Gift

Because I couldn't work out yesterday I did something nice instead. After I had taken the children old clothes to the flea market I went finally to the local underwear shop to select the first milestone gift. So, I bought a new sport bra. And in addition I have now a new nursing bra too. I got so good service there and it has been for a while since my size has been checked by some bra expert, that now it feels almost weird to do all stuff here so well fitting bra on.

Both bras were Anita's. Especially the sport bra feels perfect. I have never had such a supportive sport underwear. Actually I have always had Anita's nursing bras but I didn't know that they have also so good sport underwear. In addition I took also the sport pants with orange stripes. Now I have one more reason to get well soon. I really want to test the sport bra in real action as soon as possible!

Sneezing

Atshu! I skipped already the second exercise for this week due to this flu. Luckily it feels that it's not very hard one and doesn't cause fever, at least yet. Hopefully I can continue the training program on Sunday again.



Five Handfuls a Day project has it challenges because our fridge is almost empty because I haven't been shopping food for a while, and it is hard to figure out what vegetables I still could eat. But after all I could do it! It was already third consecutive day when I managed to eat all five handfuls, yeah! We will have guests all the weekend so it might be hard to remember the healthy eating, as it has always been during the vacations and other special periods. I'll do my best to stay strong and get five tallmarks to the notepaper also tomorrow.

Good and Bad News

Bad news first: Today I just couldn't exercise. I feel that flu is really coming now and so that it doesn't go bad, I take it easy. Anyway, I walked slowly and carefully to my parents with pram, where girls already had spend overnight. Then I spent a moment in pool in baby swimming so it wasn't that inactive day after all. But it seems that I have to skip the third training of the week also which I was planning to do tomorrow.

But my training carpet is wonderful. Now I have picture of it below with my dumbbells. I'm looking forward to work out again on it. And because it's not any small yoga mat but two metres long real carpet, I can do even the side lunges on it. And I don't have any excuse to stop plank until the time ends because I don't have to worry about the slippery floor. I found it at sales so it was only 10 euros investment.



Good news: Five Handfuls a Day project is progressing again. Thanks to the yellow note paper on the fridge door. I was visiting my parents today and I had only handful together before the baby swimming but I made big salad for a supper and had grapes as a dessert and the situation was good in the end:

Note Paper and Tally Marks

Today I started to follow my Five Handfuls a Day Goal more detailed. And I have the latest hi-tech tools in use: a pen and a note paper. I'm going to mark my correctly eated handfuls to the note paper on the fridge door. At least today it helped me to remember every handful. The idea was to concentrate on this diet during this second four weeks period so let's see can I make it every day until the next weigh-in day. And if someone couldn't follow what I'm talking about, I ask you to read  more about this diet here.

Exercising feels better and better everyday. No more news on that. We have already new flu in the house, husband had fever in the beginning of the week and also my throat feels dry. Hopefully it doesn't get worse that I can continue the hard drills now!

It's Week 7 Already

First training of the week 7 is done now, and wow how nice it was. After the few weeks weakness I'm on fire again! After the hard aerobic exercise I made cool down in the swimming pool. We were swimming with the daughters and husband this time while the son had quality time with the grandparents. It is a bit more active 'being' in the pool with the daughters than with the baby on Thursdays baby swimming.

Otherwise I have organised storages this weekend. I will soon have table in the flea market for couple of weeks. I'm going to sell small clothes of the kids and I have to walk there almost every day to keep the table in good shape. Thus, pram walking is hot activity in the near future here.

I have a new training carpet. It is purple. Decoration of the living room is changing because of my exercises. I want to save the new floor and it is easier to do some drills on a soft surface. I will take a photo of it for you in the near future. Now it is time to rest so good night my guests!
